If i was building a site today…
. . . i would not create my own registration system. Instead i would just have Facebook Connect and Twitter OAuth as the only registration/login options. For users, it’s so quick & easy and, best of all, pretty much everyone in the (English) speaking world has one of these accounts. For good measure i’de probably throw in Google Friend Connect and SocialThing options as well. In any case I can’t see a situation where this doesn’t quickly become the de facto standard reg./login system across the web.
Which is great because it solves the registration hurdle which is one of the main obstacles that all new sites face. This could boost the motivation for developers to experiment with new ideas that otherwise would have seemed unrealistic. So we can all expect a lot of new and interesting sites that focus more on creating an engaging experience, rather than just ’signing you on’.
